RARING TO GO - In places like Bridgewater, NS, Woodstock, NB and Summerside, PEI young players are raring to go and battle for positions on teams for the 2008-09 season and players in dozens of other communities more players will join them in the coming days. Most major junior, junior A and major midget teams will have opened their training camps by the time this weekend is over. Drop into a rink near you and see them in action.

WANTED LEAGUE SCHEDULES
If you are an executive of a hockey league in Atlantic Canada please send a copy of your league’s 2008-09 schedule to news@hockeyscene.com as soon as it is available. It takes time to post the schedules so we want to get working on them.
We in the process of posting the QMJHL schedule. The AUS Men’s, AUS Women’s, NL Major Midget and NS Major Midget schedules have all been entered.

NSMMHL HOLDS EARLY BIRD TOURNEY THIS WEEK
  DARTMOUTH, NS, August 27, 2008 - The eight teams in the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League will gather this weekend August 30-September 1 at the Dartmouth Sportsplex for annual NSMMHL Early Bird Tournament, hosted by the Dartmouth Subways.
 
PEI ROCKET SET TO OPEN TRAINING CAMP
  CHARLOTTETOWN, PEI, August 27, 2008 - Players are arriving in Charlottetown for the opening of the PEI Rocket's main training camp that begins this Friday, at the Charlottetown Civic Centre in preparation for to open its sixth season on P.E.I..

 
WILDCATS OPEN TRAINING CAMP THURSDAY
  MONCTON, NB, August 27, 2008 - The Moncton Wildcats 2008 training camp is slated to open Thursday, August 28. Registration will begin at 6 p.m. at the Tim Hortons 4 Ice Centre. The first official on ice sessions will take place Friday.
 
ONSLOW, NS BROTHERS OFF TO MAINEIACS CAMP
  TRURO, NS, August 27, 2008 – Growing up, P.J. and Travis Moore always hoped they would get the chance to skate onto the ice wearing the same uniform. The Lower Onslow, NS brothers finally got that chance last season when both cracked the Pictou County Weeks Major Midgets roster.
 
SEA DOGS OPEN CAMP FRIDAY
  SAINT JOHN, NB, August 26, 2008 - The Saint John Sea Dogs announced Tuesday the names of the 41 players that will be attending the team’s fourth annual Quebec Major Junior Hockey League training camp Friday.
 
MOOSEHEADS TRADE BOUCHARD
  HALIFAX, NS, August 26, 2008 - Halifax Mooseheads traded 20-year-old forward David Bouchard to the Chicoutimi Sagueneens, Halifax Mooseheads’ General Manager Marcel Patenaude announced Tuesday.
 
FLYERS HOLDING REGISTRATION WEDNESDAY
  MONCTON, NB, August 26, 2008 - The Moncton Mark’s Work Wearhouse Flyers will hold a pre- training camp registration on Wednesday August 27, 2008 from 7:00pm – 9:00pm in the meeting room (the glass room) located on the second floor of the Tim Horton’s 4-Ice Centre.
 
BIROUX JOINS THUNDER COACHING STAFF
  CORNWALL, PEI, August 26, 2008 - A former player and assistant coach of the UPEI Panthers, John Brioux, has agreed to join the coaching staff of the Cornwall ’Superior’ Thunder of the NB-PEI Midget Major Hockey League.
 
CRUSHERS, LIONS COMPLETE TRADE
  HALIFAX, NS, August 25, 2008 - The Halifax Lions and Pictou County Weeks Crushers of the Maritime Junior A Hockey League have completed a trade that will allow two of the players involved, who were former Antigonish Bulldogs to continue their education at St. Francis Xavier University and continue to play junior A hockey.
 
MITCHELL HARE IS OFF TO BE A STAR
  EXMOOR, NB, August 25, 2008 - Mitchell Hare is off to become a hockey star, a New England Star of the International Junior Hockey League, that is. It’s a long way from Exmoor, New Brunswick to Massachusetts but Hare says he is looking forward to the trip.

  SAINT JOHN, NB, August 22, 2008 - Saint John Sea Dogs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League has traded veteran forward Brett Gallant to the Lewiston MAINEiacs of the same league in exchange for a sixth round selection at the 2009 QMJHL Entry Draft.
 
LUND'S CAREER APPEARS TO BE OVER
  HALIFAX, NS, August 22, 2008 - Concussions appear to have ended the once-promising hockey career of Halifax teenager Stephen Lund. The Halifax Mooseheads defenceman recently informed club management he will not report to training camp, which opens on Thursday at Cole Harbour Place.
