COMMANDOS GET HIS RIGHTS - Dieppe Commandos obtained the Maritime Junior Hockey League rights to Moncton Wildcats goaltender Jason Rioux from the Woodstock Slammers Saturday. The Commandos gave up a second round selection in the 2015 MHL Draft for the rights to the 18 year-old goaltender, who is from Riviere-du-Loup, QC. The Commandos head coach JF Damphousse was Rioux’s coach with Wildcats. He contacted Rioux right after the trade became official and the netminder said playing in the QMJHL was still his first priority but that he considered the Commandos a great option.

AT ATLANTIC HOCKEY SHOWCASE
Hockeyscene partners Liz and Bob Malone were in Charlottetown over the weekend for the early days of the Atlantic Hockey Showcase & Atlantic Female Prospect Camp put on by Andrews Hockey at the CARI Complex and MacLauchlan Arena. Both events continue through this week. Had a great time meeting and talking to old and new hockey friends and interviewing 19 players selected at random for future profile stories throughout the summer. They will also be visiting the V-Reds Senior Advanced Camp later this week in Fredericton to do more of the same.

  ST. STEPHEN, NB, June 29, 2015 - Josh Hepditch of Fredericton, NB has accepted the position of head coach of the County Aces Maritime Hockey League team and Eric Bissonnette has been appointed as general manager, removing the “interim” from his title, the team announced Monday.

AMHERST RAMBLERS MAKE MULTI-PLAYER DEAL
  AMHERST, NS, June 28, 2015 - Amherst CIBC Wood Gundy Ramblers of the Maritime Junior Hockey League hope to get something for a player the team was going to lose any way. The Ramblers traded the junior A rights to former Moncton Wildcats prospect Lucas Batt from Lewisport, NL to the Carleton Place Canadians of the Central Canada Junior Hockey League.
 
A RECORD SEVEN SEA DOGS DRAFTED TO NHL
  SUNRISE, FL, June 28, 2015 - Seven Saint John Sea Dogs were selected in the 2015 National Hockey League Draft this past weekend at the BB&T Center to set a franchise record. They were among 30 players selected from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and 96 from teams in the Canadian Hockey League.

  AMHERST, NS, June 25, 2015 - Carly Jackson, who goaltended this past season with the Cumberland Junior B Blues of the Nova Scotia Junior League, has taken a giant step forward committing to become a University of Maine Black Bear this coming season.   FREDERICTON, NB, June 23, 2015 - Jessica McCann, of Grand Bay-Westfield, NB, will don the Tommies’ green and gold this season. She was one of three new recruits announced by the Tommies women’s hockey team at St. Thomas University as new players on this year’s roster.

JOEY MACDONALD OFF TO GERMANY TO PLAY
  TORONTO, ON, June 22, 2015 - Pictou, Nova Scotia native Joey MacDonald, a goaltender with plenty of NHL experience, has signed a one year deal with the Schwenninger Wild Wings in Germany. MacDonald played in the Montreal Canadiens system last season.

  AMHERST, NS, June 15, 2015 - Head coach Jeff LeBlanc made 12 selections during the Maritime Junior Hockey League draft, including using the seventh overall pick of St. John’s Maple Leafs’ defenceman Blake Fudge. “I’m very ecstatic with how we did at the draft, but you really won’t know how you did until you get to training camp,” LeBlanc said.

FALKENHAM'S JUNIOR CAREER IS OVER
  HALIFAX, NS, June 10 2015 - Halifax Mooseheads Captain Ryan Falkenham got the kind of news Monday that no junior hockey player wants to get especially entering hi final year of junior eligibility. His junior hockey career has come to an end. The 19-year-old is scheduled to undergo hip surgery for a second time and will not be able to play hockey next season.

MHL ANNUAL MEETING AND DRAFT THIS WEEK
  CAMPBELLTON, NB, June 10, 2015 - The 2015 Maritime Junior Hockey League Annual General Meeting and Draft will take place from June 11th-13th in Campbellton, New Brunswick. The activities will get underway on Thursday evening with a meeting of the league’s general managers. The 21st annual MHL Draft will be held starting Saturday at 1:00pm.

  SHERBROOKE, QC, June 7, 2015 - The Moncton Wildcats picked eight of their 14 draftees from Atlantic Canada and added just a pair from the United States in a change from previous years. "We had earlier round picks so there were more available to us and a deeper draft this year," explained general manager Roger Shannon.

  SHERBROOKE, QC, June 7, 2015 - The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles took the top two listed Maritime players as their first round draft picks at the Quebec Major Junior draft Saturday, Shane Bowers, who had been ranked third, and Peyton Hoyt, who had been ranked 11th. "We got the two best eligible Maritimers and were very happy," said general manager and head coach Marc-Andre Dumont.

  SHERBROOKE, QC, June 6, 2015 - The Saint John Sea Dogs opened the Quebec Major Junior League's midget draft taking Joseph Veleno, a player who turned 15 just days into January of this year and who played for Lac St. Louis midgets this past season. He was first on the QMJHL's draft list.

  SHERBROOKE, QC, June 6, 2015 - A total of 17 players from Atlantic Canada were drafted in the first five rounds of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League midget draft Saturday afternoon. Ten came from Nova Scotia and seven called New Brunswick home. A further sixteen Atlantic Canadians heard their names called in the sixth to eighth rounds.
 
SCREAMING EAGLES ACQUIRE TOP SCORER
  SHERBROOKE, QC, June 5, 2015 - The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles, already expected to be one of the contenders in the coming season has acquired high scoring forward Alexandre Ranger from the Chicoutimi Saguenéens. Ranger, who will turn 20 years of age before the start of the season, recorded 56 points in 55 games last season with the Sagueneens

  SHERBROOKE, QC, June 5, 2015 - The Moncton Wildcats completed three trades Friday on the opening day of the short Quebec Major Junior Hockey League draft period associated with the annual entry draft which takes place Saturday.
 
SEA DOGS ADD VETERAN GOALTENDER
  SHERBROOKE, QC, June 5, 2015 - The Saint John Sea Dogs opened the short Quebec Major Junior Hockey June trade period at the 2015  League Entry Draft by acquiring an overage goaltender. The Sea Dogs added Marc-Antoine Turcotte and a fourth-round pick (57th overall) in 2015 from the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada in exchange for a third-round pick in 2015 (46th overall).
