DON JOHNSON CUP IS UNDERWAY
Play at the Don Johnson Memorial Cup Eastern Canadian Junior B Championship Tournament in Port Hawkesbury, NS, got underway Tuesday with three round robin games. The same format continues through to and including Friday with games at noon, 4:00pm and 7:30pm. Semifinals are slated for Saturday with the championship Sunday at noon. For more information click on the banner at the top of the page.

  PORT HAWKESBURY, April 22, 2014 - Teams from Ontario and Newfoundland & Labrador won their opening games at the Don Johnson Cup Eastern Canadian Junior B Championship being played at the Civic Centre in Port Hawksbury this week.
 
BIG THIRD PERIOD GIVES BEARCATS BACK LEAD
  TRURO, NS, April 22, 2014 - The Truro Bearcats scored three goals in less than three minutes in the first half of the third period Tuesday night at the Rath-Eastlink Community Centre and the game winner on a powerplay with 43 seconds remaining in regulation for a 5-4 win to continue home team domination in the Maritime Junior Hockey League Kent Cup Championship Series.
 
McDONALDS SHUT OUT AT TELUS CUP
  MOOSE JAW, SASK, April 22, 2014 - The Halifax McDonalds weren’t the same team that played last night. In fact they looked like a tired bunch as they skated to a 3-0 loss by the Toronto Young Nationals at their second game of the Telus Cup, the Midget AAA National Championships, even though they out shot their opponents 22-19 over the 60 minutes.
 
BLAZERS OUTSCORE VIPERS IN OPENING GAME
  PORT HAWKESBURY, NS, April 22, 2014 - The Nova Scotia champion Sackville Blazers scored five goals in the third period to outscore the Prince Edward Island champion Kensington Vipers 8-6 in the opening game at the Don Johnson Memorial Cup Eastern Canadian Junior B Hockey Championship being played at the Port Hawkesbury Community Centre.
 
ROCKETS WIN CLOSE GAME AT ESSO CUP

  STONEY CREEK, ON, April 22, 2014 - The Moncton Source for Sports scored three in the first to Edmonton Thunder’s one and Brianne Waterman made 42 saves to keep the Thunder from knotting the score in the final minutes of the game to claim their first victory 5-4 at the Esso Cup, the Midget AAA Female national championships. HALIFAX MACS SETTLE FOR TIE AT TELUS CUP
  MOOSE JAW, SASK, April 22, 2014 - Two quick goals in the first two periods weren’t enough to give the Halifax McDonalds a win but did give them a 2-2 tie against the host Moose Jaw Generals in their opening game at the Telus Cup, the national Midget AAA championships Monday night.
 
COMMANDOS EVEN SERIES 2-2, GAME 5 TUESDAY
  DIEPPE, NB, April 21, 2014 - There will be at least a game six in the best of seven Maritime Junior Hockey League Kent Cup Championship Series. Joel Blanchard scored 1:35 into the second overtime Monday night to give the Dieppe Commandos a 3-2 victory over the Truro Bearcats and tie the series 2-2. The teams have each won both games to home.
 
NEW GLASGOW NATIVE HIRED AS NAHL COACH
  CORPUS CHRISTI, TX, April 21, 2014 – The Corpus Christi IceRays of the North American Hockey League has hired 29 year-old New Glasgow, NS, native Brad Flynn to the IceRays staff to work alongside head coach John Becanic for the 2014-15 campaign.
 
ROCKETS LOSE SECOND GAME AT ESSO CUP
  STONEY CREEK, ON, April 21, 2014 - Just three minutes in the first and a further two minutes in the third made all the difference in the game between the Moncton Source for Sports Rockets and the Sudbury Lady Wolves and it would have been a tied game as the Wolves mounted a 5-1 win. That left the Rockets down by two games at the Esso Cup, national championship for the Female Midget AAAs.
 
DON JOHNSON CUP OPENS TUESDAY IN STRAIT
  PORT HAWKESBURY, NS, April 21, 2014 - The Don Johnson Cup, that has become a significant part of the Atlantic hockey scene as the Atlantic Junior B Hockey Championship, has become the Eastern Canadian Junior B Championship for 2015 with the addition of a team from the Ottawa District. Now a six team event, play will get underway Tuesday at the Civic Centre.
 
TOUGH START FOR ROCKETS AT ESSO CUP
  STONEY CREEK, ON, April 20, 2014 – The Atlantic female midget hockey champion Moncton Rockets got off to a bad start in their opening game against the host Stoney Creek Sabres at the 2014 Esso Cup National Female Midget Championship. The Sabres were in a word: dominant.
 
CLARENVILLE TO HOST 2014 ALLAN CUP
  DUNDAS, ON, April 20, 2014 – The Clarenville Caribous didn’t win the Allan Cup, emblematic of Canada’s senior hockey champions in 2014 but they will have another chance in 2015 when their community hosts the championship tournament. For the first time ever, the Dundas Real McCoys, this year’s host team, won the Cup, claiming Canada’s 106th National Senior Championship.
 
SACKVILLE BLAZERS ARE N.S. JUNIOR B CHAMPS
  GLACE BAY, NS, April 20, 2014 - The Kensington Vipers now know who their opponent will be Tuesday in the opening game of the Eastern Canadian Junior B Championship being played in Port Hawkesbury next week. The Sackville Blazers won the team's second straight Nova Scotia Junior B Championship Sunday with a 6-2 victory over the Glace Bay Jr. Miners in game seven.
 
HALIFAX MCDONALDS ON WAY TO TELUS CUP
  MOOSE JAW, SK, April 20, 2014 – Halifax McDonalds boarded an air flight to Saskatchewan this morning hoping to be the first midget hockey team from Atlantic Canada to mine gold at Canada’s National Midget Championship, which begins in Moose Jaw Monday, April 21. The Macs are the Atlantic Region champions.
 
ICECAPS FINISH SCHEDULE ON A WINNING NOTE
  SACO, ME, April 19, 2014 - Josh Lunden scored twice in the third period, including the winner, as the St. John’s IceCaps shaded the Portland Pirates 5-4 Saturday night at the MHG Ice Center in Saco, Maine in their final game on the 2013-14 American Hockey League schedule.

  TRURO, NS, April 19, 2014 - The Rath-Eastlink Community Centre in Truro is proving to be a hard place for Dieppe Commandos to leave with a win. The Truro Bearcats almost shutout the Commandos 3-1 Saturday night in in game three of the best of seven Maritime Junior Hockey League Kent Cup Championship Series to take a 2-1 series lead.
 
ROCKETS OPEN PLAY AT ESSO CUP SUNDAY
  STONEY CREEK, ON, April 19, 2014 – The puck is about to drop on the 2014 Esso Cup, Canada’s National Female Midget Championship, at the Gateway Ice Centre in Stoney Creek. The Atlantic champion Moncton Source For Sports Rockets will be joining four other regional champions and the host team in a five-day preliminary round, to be followed by semifinals and medal games.

  SPRINGFIELD, MA, April 17, 2014 - The American Hockey League announced Thursday that two Fredericton, NB, natives, Jake Allen of the Chicago Wolves and Eric Neilson of the Syracuse Crunch, have won top league honours for the 2013-14 season. Both played with the Frederictom Midget AAA Canadiens before going on to play in the QMJHL before turning pro.

AVALON CAPITALS NL JUNIOR HOCKEY CHAMPS

NL, April 14, 2014 - The Roebothan, McKay and Marshall Avalon Junior Capitals won the fifth game of the best seven St. John’s Junior Hockey League final series to capture the St. John’s and Newfoundland & Labrador Junior B Hockey Championship on Saturday night. DIEPPE COMMANDOS ARE MHL MEEK CHAMPIONS
  DIEPPE, NB, April 12, 2014 - A capacity crowd jammed the Arthur J. LeBlanc Arena in Dieppe Friday night to watch the Dieppe Commandos make history as the six-year old team won it’s first Maritime Junior Hockey League Roger Meek Division championship. The Commandos defeated the Miramichi Timberwolves 4-1 in game six to take the best of seven series 4-2.
 
TIMBERWOLVES FORCE GAME SIX WITH WIN
  MIRAMICHI, NB, April 9, 2014 - Miramichi Timberwolves won their first game of the best of seven Maritime Junior Hockey League Roger Meek Division Championship Series at home Wednesday night to force a game six in the series Friday night at 7:30pm in Dieppe. The Dieppe Commandos now lead the series 3-2.

  HALIFAX, NS, April 8, 2014 - The Halifax based ACCEL Hawks of the Nova Scotia Major Bantam Hockey League has announced that Blaine Boutilier will be assuming the reigns as head coach of the team for the 2014-15 season.

ICE BREAKERS TAKE HOME BRONZE MEDALS
  MOUNT PEARL, NL, April 6, 2014 - The Bronze Medal Game featured the Host Tri-Com Thunder and the St. John’s Ice Breakers, representing Newfoundland and Labrador. In the end, a thrilling top corner shot from Captain Ian Smallwood in overtime gave the Ice Breakers a 4-3 victory and allowed the team to repeat their medal performance of 2013.
