KEY PLAYOFF ACTION THIS WEEKEND
There will be key junior hockey playoff action in the Maritimes this weekend as the Truro Bearcats and Dieppe Commandos continue their Maritime Junior Hockey League Kent Cup Championship Series with games Thursday and Monday at 7:30pm in Dieppe and Saturday at 7:00pm in Truro while the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League semifinal series between the Halifax Mooseheads and Val-d’Or Foreurs gets underway with games one and two Friday and Saturday at 7:00pm at the Metro Centre in Halifax. The Nova Scotia Junior B Championship Series between the Glace Bay Jr. Miners and Sackville Blazers will conclude Friday at 7:30pm and the Sackville Arena or Sunday at the Bay Plex in Glace Bay if necessary.

  DIEPPE, NB, April 17, 2014 - Defenceman Justin McDonald’s early third period goal and a 24 save performance by Connor Wilkinson led the Dieppe Commandos to a 3-2 victory over Truro Bearcats Thursday night at the Arthur J. FREDERICTON NATIVES WIN TOP AHL HONOURS
  SPRINGFIELD, MA, April 17, 2014 - The American Hockey League announced Thursday that two Fredericton, NB, natives, Jake Allen of the Chicago Wolves and Eric Neilson of the Syracuse Crunch, have won top league honours for the 2013-14 season. Both played with the Frederictom Midget AAA Canadiens before going on to play in the QMJHL before turning pro.
 
TWO MAKE FINAL TEAM CANADA U18 ROSTER
  CALGARY, AB, April 17, 2014 - Two Atlantic Canadians, forward Clark Bishop and goatender Mason McDonald, are among five players from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League included on the 23-player roster for Canada’s National Men’s Under-18 Team announced by Hockey Canada, in partnership with the Canadian Hockey League (CHL).

  CLARE, NS, April 16, 2014 - The Clare Lions of the Nova Scotia Junior C Hockey League is celebrating the team’s 10th season and one of the team’s founders is returning at the team’s helm. PENGUIN TO BECOME A PANTHER ON PEI
  CHARLOTTETOWN, PEI, April 16, 2014 - A member of the Nova Scotia female midget AAA champion East Hants Pro Cresting Penguins, Madison Clarke, is joining the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers women's hockey team for the 2014–15 season, Head Coach Bruce Donaldson announced Wednesday.
 
BEARCATS EDGE COMMANDOS 2-1 IN OPENER
  TRURO, NS, April 15, 2014 - Goaltender Chris Festarini made 31 saves to lead the Truro Bearcats to a 2-1 victory over the Diepe Commandos in the opening game of the Maritime Junior Hockey League Kent Cup League Championship Series Tuesday night at the Rath-EastLink Community Centre in Truro.
 
FLYERS SIGN MACDONALD FOR SIX YEARS
  PHILADELPHIA, PA, April 15, 2014 - The National Hockey League Philadelphia Flyers has signed Judique, Nova Scotia native and former Moncton Wildcats defenceman Andrew MacDonald to a multi-year contract extension.
 
WORLD JUNIOR A CHALLENGE GOING WEST
  CALGARY, AB, April 14, 2014 – The World Junior A Challenge, which has been hosted by Yarmouth, NS the past two years is heading west to Saskatchewan for 2014, Hockey Canada, in partnership with the Canadian Junior Hockey League, have announced that Kindersley, SK, will host the 2014 World Junior A Challenge from December 14-20, 2014.
 
AVALON CAPITALS NL JUNIOR HOCKEY CHAMPS
  ST. JOHN’S. NL, April 14, 2014 - The Roebothan, McKay and Marshall Avalon Junior Capitals won the fifth game of the best seven St. John’s Junior Hockey League final series to capture the St. John’s and Newfoundland & Labrador Junior B Hockey Championship on Saturday night. It is the first SJJHL league championship title in 18 years for the Capitals.
 
VALLEY WILDCATS SEEKING NEW COACH
  BERWICK, NS, April 14, 2014 - The Valley Wildcats of the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League (NSMMHL) is currently accepting resumes for the position of head coach for the 2014-15 season. The previous incumbent in the position, Dan Turner, has decided to return to the major bantam program.
 
NOVA SCOTIAN IS ICECAPS MOST VALUABLE
  ST. JOHN’S, NL, April 13, 2014 - Porter’s Lake, NS native Andrew Gordon has been named the St. John’s IceCaps’ Most Valuable Player for the 2013-14 season. The awards were presented just before the final regular season home game at Mile One Centre on Sunday afternoon.
 
ICECAPS REBOUND WITH WIN OVER WOLFPACK
  ST. JOHN'S, NL, April 13, 2014 - After being on the losing end of a 7-2 loss to the Hartford WolfPack on Saturday night the St. John’s IceCaps rebounded with a 6-2 win in their final regular season home game of the year on Sunday afternoon.
 
MHL KENT CUP FINAL SERIES OPENS TUESDAY
  TRURO, NS, April 14, 2014 - The New Brunswick Junior A Champion Dieppe Commandos and the Nova Scotia Junior A Champion Truro Bearcats will meet for Kent Cup in a best of seven series that opens Tuesday night at 7:00pm at the Rath-EastLink Community Centre in Truro. The winner of the series will represent Atlantic Canada at the 2014 Fred Page Cup in St Jérôme QC.
 
JETS REASSIGN SIX BACK TO ICECAPS
  ST. JOHN'S, NL, April 12, 2014 - Just in time for the start of the St. John's Ice Caps playoff preparations, the Winnipeg Jets announced Saturday the re-assignment of recent call-ups Ben Chiarot, Patrice Cormier, Michael Hutchinson, Carl Klingberg, Eric O’Dell and Zach Redmond to their American Hockey League affiliate.
 
VIPERS ARE PEI JUNIOR B CHAMPIONS AGAIN
  MONTAGUE, PEI, April 12, 2014 - The Kensington Moase Plumbing & Heating Vipers won the Prince Edward Island Junior B Hockey Championship for the fifth straight year with a 10-7 win over the Montague Total Assets Fitness Maniacs on Saturday night in Montague. The Vipers has now won the provincial and Island Junior Hockey League championship seven of the past eight years.
 
JUNIOR MINERS TAKE 3-2 SERIES LEAD
  GLACE BAY, NS. April 12, 2014 - The Glace Bay Jr. Miners dumped the Sackville Blazers 6-2, in front of a full house at the Bay Plex in Glace Bay Saturday night, to take a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven Nova Scotia Junior B Hockey Championship Series.
 
DIEPPE COMMANDOS ARE MHL MEEK CHAMPIONS
  DIEPPE, NB, April 12, 2014 - A capacity crowd jammed the Arthur J. LeBlanc Arena in Dieppe Friday night to watch the Dieppe Commandos make history as the six-year old team won it’s first Maritime Junior Hockey League Roger Meek Division championship. The Commandos defeated the Miramichi Timberwolves 4-1 in game six to take the best of seven series 4-2.
 
TIMBERWOLVES FORCE GAME SIX WITH WIN
  MIRAMICHI, NB, April 9, 2014 - Miramichi Timberwolves won their first game of the best of seven Maritime Junior Hockey League Roger Meek Division Championship Series at home Wednesday night to force a game six in the series Friday night at 7:30pm in Dieppe. The Dieppe Commandos now lead the series 3-2.
 
ACES GETTING READY TO TAKE FLIGHT
  ST. STEPHEN, NB, April 9, 2014 - The Maritime Junior A Hockey League’s new St. Stephen-based team is paying tribute to the community’s hockey past and the region’s history with its nickname, logo and team colours. The Aces are preparing for puck drop in the fall of this year at the brand new Garcelon Civic Center in St. Stephen.
 
GORDON HELPS ICECAPS CLINCH PLAYOFF BERTH
  ST. JOHN’S, NL, April 8, 2014 - Porter’s Lake, NS native Andrew Gordon two assisted on two goals including the game winner, to help the St. John’s IceCaps clinch a berth in the 2014 Calder Cup playoffs with a 3-1 win over the Hamilton Bulldogs at Mile One Centre on Tuesday night.

  YARMOUTH, NS, April 8, 2014 - The Yarmouth Junior A Mariners is looking for a new head coach and general manager and the incumbant Laurie Barron is looking for a new job coaching. Team owner Mitch Bonnar informed of the decision on Monday. Barron says it came as a surprise.
 
ACCEL HAWKS NAME BOUTILIER AS HEAD COACH
  HALIFAX, NS, April 8, 2014 - The Halifax based ACCEL Hawks of the Nova Scotia Major Bantam Hockey League has announced that Blaine Boutilier will be assuming the reigns as head coach of the team for the 2014-15 season.
 
COMMANDOS HAVE TIMBERWOLVES ON BRINK
  DIEPPE, NB, April 7, 2014 - The 2013-14 season for the Miramichi Timberwolves could be over as early as Wednesday night when they face off against the Dieppe Commandos at 7:30pm at the Miramichi Civic Center in Miramichi, a place where the Timberwolves has yet to win a game in the best of seven Maritime Junior Hockey League Roger Meek Division championship series.

BLAZERS SQUARE SERIES 2-2 WITH JR. MINERS
  LOWER SACKVILLE, NS. April 7,2014 - The Sackville Blazers battled the Glace Bay Jr. Miners to a 5-1 win Monday night at the Sackville Arena to even the best-of-seven Nova Scotia Junior B championship series at 2-2. After four games the teams have split the two games at home. Game five is scheduled for Saturday night in Glace Bay.
 
JUNIOR MINERS TAKE NS JUNIOR B SERIES LEAD
  LOWER SACKVILLE, NS, April 6, 2014 - The Glace Bay Jr. Miners doubled the Sackville Blazers 4-2 to take a 2-1 lead in their best-of-seven Nova Scotia Junior B Championship Series Sunday night at the Sackville Arena and regain home ice advantage.
 
BEARCATS HEADED TO KENT CUP FINAL SERIES
  NEW GLASGOW, NS, April 6, 2014 - The Truro Bearcats are headed back to the Maritime Junior Hockey League Kent Cup Championship Series. The Bearcats captures their second consecutive Eastlink Division championship and Nova Scotia Junior A provincial banner Sunday night at the Pictou County Wellness Centre but they had to battle the Weeks Crushers to overtime to do it.

NL, April 6, 2014 - The Glacier in Mount Pearl, NL was the scene of classic medal round hockey as teams battled for Atlantic Bantam AAA supremacy at the 23rd Irving Oil Challenge Cup before a large crowd. In the end, the Bubba Rays Gulls of Nova Scotia combined strong team play and skill to edge the Moncton Hawks...
 
ICE BREAKERS TAKE HOME BRONZE MEDALS
  MOUNT PEARL, NL, April 6, 2014 - The Bronze Medal Game featured the Host Tri-Com Thunder and the St. John’s Ice Breakers, representing Newfoundland and Labrador. In the end, a thrilling top corner shot from Captain Ian Smallwood in overtime gave the Ice Breakers a 4-3 victory and allowed the team to repeat their medal performance of 2013.
 
JUNIOR CAPS PULL OFF THE IMPROBABLE
  FREDERICTON, NB, April 3, 2014 - Few, if any thought it could be done but the Fredericton Office Interior Caps has rebounded from a 2-0 series deficit to win the New Brunswick Junior B Hockey Championship in Cinderella-like fashion in six games.
